Comscore has released some more data on the top / most popular iphone apps and games.  The data below shows the % of all app store users who have installed the app or game:

Popular apps

• backgrounds – 27%
• facebook – 26%
• myspace – 23%
• Google Earth 22%
• Pandora  - 21%
• AIM – 19%
• Virtual Zippo Lighter – 18%
• Bubble Wrap – 18%
• Shazam – 18%

Popular games

• Tap Tap Revenge - 32%
• Touch Hockey: FS5- 26%
• Pac-Man - 24%
• iBowl    - 24%
• Labyrinth - 22%
• Hangman - 18%
• Mazefinger - 16%
• Cube Runner - 16%
• Sol Solitaire - 15%
• Crazy Penguin Catapult - 15%
• Topple -     15%
• Sudoku - 14%

The key points to note:

• Independent developers are doing well with a number of items in the top lists (e.g. Tapulous for Tap Tap Revenge)
• Big Brands like facebook and myspace also doing well
• Media companies not having the same level of success (where are the major TV or newspaper services on the list?)
• Casual games (e.g. solitaire) and arcade classics (Pacman) doing well
• Only brand app on the list is the Zippo lighter
