Following up on the last lot of iphone statistics here's some of the latest data for 2009 from Comscore.
The report details the mobile media usage habits of iphone users compared to smartphone users. Here's the key numbers:
- browsing - 80% vs 48% smartphone users
- email 76% vs 35%
- mobile music 66% vs 40%
- social networking 55% vs 30%
- web search 55% vs 31%
- 75% of iphone users are male and the majority are aged 18-44
So there is a big jump in usage for iphones, but perhaps not as massive as you might have thought considering all these phones have flat rate data plans, and an early adopter user base. The numbers for smartphones are actually quite encouraging - 50% now browsing is pretty good.

I don't know if those numbers mean anything since the generic term "smartphone" encompasses a much larger sample of people than iPhone users. Hell, S60 alone dominates the iPhone worldwide two to one. I guess the biggest thing to be taken from this is that the iPhone is generally perceived to be a better device for those said purposes, but there are tons of people who own smartphones without using any of those features or bought them for a single specific feature (which could potentially be a feature the iPhone doesn't have, depending on what it is).
Where's the link to the original data?
