So the first bits of data are coming through on Android and it's looking really positive.
Firstly, Mobile internet sites like mippin have already been reporting a big uplift in traffic and usage from the Android G1.
Secondly, the most recent Admob data shows that the share of Android in terms of mobile internet traffic is:
- 5% in the US
- 1% share in the UK
- 2% worldwide
The G1 was the number 13 device in the US with 1.7% share in February and is currently the number one device on the T-Mobile network
Some other data released by T-Mobile on the android, G1 and android market also makes interesting reading:
- 1m devices sold to date
- 40 applications downloaded on average by each user (that seems massive)
- this implies 40m android apps downloaded overall
- four out of five Android users download apps once a week
- 80% of android users browse the mobile web daily
With a load of new android devices in the works, android is shaping up to be a very interesting platform for developers, mobile sites, advertisers and everyone else in the mobile internet market.
