Nimbuzz is a fantastic mobile IM, voip and unified communications platform which we recently profiled over at Mobile Industry Review. They are kicking up a storm right now with a load of great stuff happening over the last six months - more evidence that mobile can buck the recession. Here's some details including some interesting stats:
Users and usage
- Nearly 10 million downloads in total Over two hundred thousand downloads per week
- 20k registered users every day (up from 10k per day earlier this year following iphone launch)
- 1.5 million users in over 200 countries
- 25% active user base
- support for 11 languages
- 95% of users would recommend the app to a friend
Funding
First round of $10m in 2007, followed by another in July 2008 of $15 million from investors Mangrove Capital, MIH/Naspers, and Holtzbrinck Ventures
Awards
Best Mobile Startup at Mobile 2.0 in Barcelona
Reconignised as part of the Global 250 Winners during the Stanford Summit
Partnerships
Commercial partnership with social network StudiVZ (12 million users), bringing real-time web and mobile communication ot their social networks
Deals with 17 global VoIP (SIP) partners such as Vyke, Gizmo5, SIPGate, A1, and MWeb, who promote Nimbuzz to their customers
Major distribution deal with Spice Mobiles in India - brings Nimbuzz pre-installed to Spice Mobiles handset users via approximately 25,000 retail outlets
It is great to see Nimbuzz really making some waves this year and working out new ways of distributing mobile apps on a massive scale through some clever biz dev deals.
